My great-grandfather - John Joseph Hannigan - joined the FBNY on April 1,
1904 after serving in the Philippines in the US Army and was assigned to H &
L Co. 6. After goint to Europe during World War I he returned to the FDNY
and was promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned to H&L 10 on May 12, 1919.
He retired in March 1926 as a Lieutenant with FDNY while assigned to H&L 10.
I am looking for any pictures that might be from that time period,
especially pictures that might have him in them. Also, I would like to get a
picture of the fire station house during that time with the address of the
station house.
Anything else that might be beneficial for my family history search would be
appreciated.
Thank you.

As children, we are taught to say "thank you". But what happens when the
word thank you is simply not enough? I've asked myself that question more
than a million time since September 11, 2001 and I still don't have an
answer. Every time I'm walking down the street I see another company heading
towards another blaze and I stop and silently Bless you and pray you all
make it back home. Aside from teaching my Grandkids to say "thank you" I now
also teach them to say "God Bless You" and I make it a point to explain why.
When I think of 9/11 I reflect on how horrible a day that was for our entire
nation, but most of all for those who were in those buildings. I reflect on
how I was suppose to of had been within 2 blocks of the towers that morning
and how had I been, my friends and family would have been besides themselves
with concern. To all who know me it's no secret that I LOVE FIREMEN.
However, it's not because of who you are, it's because of "what" you are.
You are people with family and loved ones just like the rest of us, but
unlike the rest of us you sacrifice your lives for us and take the chance of
never seeing your loved ones again. There is something to be said for that,
but again...what do you say when "thank you" is just not enough?

city, riding trains, planes, AND automobiles... AND boats, shuttles. etc.etc.
etc. what an experience. my son is a firefighter in Riverside Ohio, it was
so very important to us to visit WTC and firehouse 10... Saint Pauls... it
was great. we were able to get a Tshirt for my son. we also
met two firefighters we were able to talk to at Saint Pauls..
It is hard to know what to say. thanks, seems the only thing and yet so....
ridiculous at the same time. I know that even a small town firefighter must
somehow find a way to live with the pictures and sounds... the reliving of
the horrors they have seen and somehow find a way to live with it, I just
can not imagine what you.. have to indure. so I really have no words.. just
tears, of saddness if so much loss and of joy of life that still remains,
and a heart of thanks for you... who sacrafice your peace of mind for our
safety.
I love your city... it is spectacular.
God bless American.. and you.....

FDNY Ten House Fire Fighters,
Not one day goes by that we don't think of Sept.11th, 2001,
"The Day The World Stopped Turning". We admire each and everyone of you for
your courage, job dedication and your loyalty to each other. You make a great
team and we are extremely proud of all of you! We thank
you for taking time to speak with us last February 2007, while I attended
the New York State Association of Towns Conference. I just wanted you to
know that you left a positive and lasting impression with our Granddaughter,
Emilee. Stay well and be happy! Our warmest regards always,

Happy New Years to TEN HOUSE,
I was there in NY last week and had the pleasure of meeting FF Nano (I hope
that is right, if not sorry) It was a one of a kind feeling being there,
where just over 6 years ago such tragedy occurred. I was honored to visit
some of Americas Bravest. I am with a small rural dept. here in GA. We all
do the same job, your is on alot larger scale and I am proud to have visited
your house. WE WILL NEVER FORGET!!!
